Today was our first free day on the trip. We had nothing
scheduled, so I decided to catch up on some much needed sleep. We’ve been so
busy and I haven’t gotten much sleep this week, so I was really happy to sleep
in. When I woke up, I showered and a big group of us walked to the shore to eat
and explore. We walked up and down the streets to find something. In Vina del
Mar, some employees stand outside their restaurants to convince people to eat
there. It was funny because none of us speak very good Spanish, so they were
screaming words we couldn’t understand and we would awkwardly respond “No,
gracias!” We finally found a place to eat and it was so delicious. It was a
hamburger place that sold the largest hamburgers that I’ve ever seen and they
were so cheap! After this we went to the casino in Vina just to look around. It
was huge! But I have never been to a casino in the United States, so I have
nothing to compare it to. Then we walked along the shore and looked at all the
shops for souvenirs. It was cool to see all the handmade things and that most
of them were made out of copper.
This makes a lot of sense because Chile is one of the largest copper producing countries. I bought a few souvenirs and we watched the sunset on the beach. Then we went back to the hotel and the Chilean students got us at 9 to hangout. We went to his friend’s house and a club in Vina del Mar.
